The inaugural ceremony of the diamond jubilee celebrations of the Utkal University’s Psychology Department was held on October 5 in virtual mode.

Vice-Chancellor of Utkal University Prof Sabita Acharya graced the occasion and addressed the august gathering comprising the alumni, faculty members, research scholars and students of India and abroad.

She threw light on the glorious past of the Department as this Department is the first UGC Centre of Advanced Study in Psychology in India. She highlighted the contributions of eminent Professors and Professionals in India and abroad that this Department has produced such as the founding father late Prof Radhanath Rath, Prof JP Das, Prof Saroj Misra, late Prof BN Puhan, Prof Ajit Kumar Mohanty, Prof  Uday Nath Dash and many others.

The chief guest of the occasion was Prof JP Das, Director Emeritus, JP Das Centre on Developmental and Learning Disabilities, and Professor Emeritus, Department of Educational Psychology, University of Alberta, Canada.

Prof Basanta Kumar Mallik, Chairperson, PG Council also graced the occasion and opined that he was hopeful of the Department’s future growth and development. Many invited Distinguished Professors of universities of India and abroad joined.

A logo of the diamond jubilee was unveiled and the events and programmes of the department planned for the jubilee year were outlined.

Prof Bhaswati Patnaik, Head, Department of Psychology, rendered the welcome address and Lucy Sonali Hembram, Assistant Professor gave a vote of thanks.
