Tish Hicks of Kingsbridge graduated from Utah State University with a Ph.D. in psychology.
This year’s graduating class included graduates from the summer and Fall 2021, as well as Spring 2022 semesters.
The college’s statewide campuses have held their graduation ceremonies over the past several weeks. The main campus held their graduation May 5.
Recognized for sports achievements
Yanbu Goodall-Tanco of Kingsbridge has been recognized for their behavior on the wrestling mat. They are one of five Muhlenberg College (Pennsylvania) students selected to the 2022 Winter All-Centennial Conference Sportsmanship Team.
Established by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, all Sportsmanship Team honors a member from each squad who displayed good sportsmanship throughout their career.
Students named merit scholars
Eleven students from three area high schools were named National Merit Scholars.
Each receives a $2,500 scholarship.
Area winners from Horace Mann School include Theodore Ganea, Justin Gurvitch and Ashley Chung.
From the Bronx High School of Science: Tristan Weng, Sean Kerrigan, Jasir Nawar and Ella Yellin.
Winners from Riverdale Country School were Emma Haidar and Savannah Neibart. From Ethical Culture Fieldston School was Sarafina Mathiesen Belafonte.
And from the High School of American Studies at Lehman College was Emma Abell.
The 2,500 merit scholar designees were chosen from a talent pool of more than 15,000 outstanding finalists in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program.
National Merit winners are the finalists in each state judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies. The number of winners named in each state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the nation’s graduating high school seniors.
They were selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors, who appraised a substantial amount of information submitted by both the finalists and their high schools.
From the semifinalist group, more than 15,000 students met the high academic standards and other requirements to advance …….
